Bruxism, Teeth Grinding And Tooth Clenching Can All Be Prevented
Bruxism is an oral activity which causes teeth grinding and jaw clenching. If you brux your teeth, you may unconsciously clench your teeth together during the day, or clench or grind them at night, also known as sleep bruxism. When diagnosed early, teeth grinding can be treated before it causes permanent damage to the teeth. Constant grinding wears down the surface of the teeth, exposing the soft dentin beneath the enamel. Some of the damage that can occur includes: chipped teeth, tooth flattening and tooth wear, cracked tooth enamel, cracked, loose or broken fillings, tooth loss and gum recession. If you clench or grind your teeth during sleep you are more likely to have other sleeping disorders, such as snoring and pauses in breathing (sleep apnea).
Mouthguards | Sportguards
Mouthguards, also known as sports guards or athletic mouth protectors, are crucial pieces of equipment for any child or adult participating in contact recreational or sporting activities such as soccer, basketball and hockey. Sportguards fit snugly over the upper teeth to protect the entire oral region from traumatic injury, preserving both the aesthetic appearance and the health of your smile.
Dr. Randy Singh, Dr. Marty Sekand, Dr. Ken Jandoo or Dr. Steven Schneider at Malvern Town Centre Dental Office will work with you to help prevent debilitating damage to your mouth and jaw from bruxism or sports injuries through the use of a custom nightguard or sportguard appliance.
